Riikka Lenkkeri
In her portraits and still life works, Lenkkeri´s style of representation is realistic. At the same time, she uses expressively painted abstract backgrounds as a means of drawing away from the reality illusion. Here, Lenkkeri aligns herself with contemporary painting in creating aesthetic contrast by linking abstract and central elements within the same space. As these two representation methods converge, the yellowed palm, for instance, becomes unrealistically detached, standing dreamlike against a background of complementary blue.
