This life-themed triptych is a reference to the traditional three-panel triptych art works and crucifixion compositions found in Christian art. Mortality is ever-present, in all phases of life. Death lurks at the moment of birth and ultimately has the victory, as testified by the triumphant grinning corpse in the third panel. In the centre panel, a middle-aged figure is depicted in the position of crucifixion. The man's body is muscular and vibrant, yet already half-clothed in the white robes of death.
