Riikka Lenkkeri

In Lenkkeri´s paintings the emotional ties between her subjects are revealed in their bodily positions, proximity to each other, physical contact and gaze. House plants are often present in the periphery. Besides being an integral part of the domestic setting, they also carry different symbolic meanings related to the cycle of life. Depending on the context, they can appear either ominous or reassuring and safe. Lenkkeri´s plants are sometimes lush and flourishing, other times sharp-leaved or inwardly withering.
