Lenkkeri´s bold use of light on her subjects´ faces
traces back to Italy and the painting style first created by Caravaggio
(1571-1610) and elevates people to the foreground in her paintings. The
background is also far from insignificant, having both content and
aesthetic meanings. This depth effect not only gives the works a sense
of space, but also enables the subtle placement of dramatic elements
behind the models.
